Seven Women And the Secret of Their Greatness By Eric Metaxas

In a follow up book to his book - Men and the Secret of Their Greatness, Eric Metaxas has written Seven Women and the Secret of Their Greatness. In this book Metaxas lists seven women who have inspired many many people because of their hardship they faced, what they believed in, and the resiliency to never quit. Of the seven I really had a good time reading about Rosa Parks, Saint Maria of Paris, and Susanna Wesley.

One thing I noticed of the three women that I've mentioned,  all of them had to face some sort of hardship and as a result had a strong courage to stand up for what they believed in and to maintain their faith no matter what.

Overall book was about how greatness is not something that is given at birth but rather is achieved by continually working hard, staying true to what one believes, and pursuing God with all that they are.

Brave Enough by Nicole Unice

*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale Blog Network in exchange for my honest review.

What fear prevents you from doing a particular action? If that fear was eliminated, how soon would you get that action done?

In Brave Enough, Nicole Unice wants women to no longer live in fear but to be bold and free in Christ. Unice challenges her readers to get in the game, not back down from a conflict, know their limits, and be brave daily.

While this book was written primarily to women I found the content to be applicable to more than just the intended audience. Every Christian should feel brave because of the strength that is in Christ. We are brave enough because of who we serve.

While My Soldier Serves by Edie Melson

*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Worthy Publishing in exchange for my honest review.

This book is a collection of prayers that Edie Melson has written for those who have loved ones in the military. Ranging from asking for guidance, wisdom to make the proper decisions, and also protection for the soldier(s), this book could be a great resource for those who struggle with how to prayer for their loved one(s).

I really enjoyed the honesty and heart of this book. The prayers are segmented into topics which also allow for ease of finding a prayer or finding several prayers for a specific topic. As someone who enjoys prayer books this book is a nice addition with a military bent.

PTSD: A Spouse's Perspective How to Survive in A World of PTSD By Erica David

*I received a complimentary copy of this book from West Bow Press in exchange for my honest review.

PTSD.

For some, those four letters invoke feelings of depression, anger, fear, anxiety, and other emotions. For others, it stirs up memories of a loved one who suffers(ed) from it.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a disorder that affects someone who has experienced something that caused injury to their psyche. It can also affect those who care for someone suffering from this disorder. Erica David is the latter.

Her book PTSD: A Spouse's Perspective How to Survive in A World of PTSD is her sharing how she has been confronted with this disorder, her struggles in trying help a loved one who suffers from it, and what she has learned through the process.

Having never been near someone who has PTSD, this book was an eye-opener for me. To read of struggles of how to handle a spouse with PTSD, explain it to her children, and how to find support really gave me a new understanding of what PTSD can do.

365 Pocket Prayer for Mothers

*I received this complimentary copy from Tyndale Blog Network in exchange for my honest review.

Before I get too far I must first say that I am not a mother; I am a father. However, I was really curious about this little book. As someone who enjoys prayer books (Book of Common Prayer, Celtic Prayers, etc) I really wanted to see what this book had to offer.

The first thing I noticed was the heart of prayers. They were deep, emotional, honest, but potent. I was greatly surprised by some of things that were written. I would not have thought to pray like that.

For example, one prayer was how the child challenged the mother to be more joyful. This was inspired by giggles. Giggles! Who would have thought that giggles would cause a longing to be joyful?

Another example was the mother recalling her child walking very wobbly and how she longed to be "caught" by God when she struggled to walk in her life. Those are just two examples of some very powerful prayers that were inspired from ordinary childhood events.

I would highly recommend that mothers get this little book to read when they have the chance. It should encourage you as a mother, challenge you to enjoy those "moments", and to thank God that you are a mom.

P.S. I was saddened that there is not a 365 Prayers for Fathers...yet. If it is anything like this book it will be a great book for any father.
